I'm only on an acre in a residential area so I think it's time to downsize ASAP. I always go overboard in the spring because chicks are in high demand, especially bantams apparently
I have 12 -- 6 standard (BO, Light Brahma, and 4 RSLs), and 6 bantam (3 cochins, 2 D'Uccles and an OEGB). That's where I'm going to have to stay. I just don't have time, money, or room for any more. Mostly because I've got eleven freaking dogs, 8 cats, a hamster, an amazong, a goat, and 2 human kids on top. My resources just won't go further. ...This is me, for those interested, trying to convince myself that there will be No More Chickens.
After many years with full grown chickens but not new chicks our flock was reduced to 2, a RIR hen and a banty rooster. All died of old age or predators
over the years. The last two are 10 and 12 years old. The hen broke her leg this year, healed and is still laying an egg a day.
We picked up 18 chicks, 5 RIR, 3 BR, 2 EE, 2 SL, 4 bantys, and 2 guineas.
Long story short, 20 all together. yea!
