WALDOBORO MAINE
just wondering what everyone has for chickens and what are your coop dimensions. i have 18 standards and the coop is 10x12 gambrel barn. looking to add 10 more standards.

We have eleven standards in a 10 x 5 ft. coop (I think those are the dimensions, but I'm really estimating). We could put more chickens in there, maybe five more standards before it would be maxed out. We have another one with two standards and a bantam in a 4 x 4 ft. coop, although I'm estimating on that, too.

I have three standards and one bantam (or maybe she's just a really small EE). And they are in a big coop. Maybe 10' x 7'. I could fit more in there, but they seem happy to have the extra space.

My chicken house is 10X10. Their yard right now is 40ft long by 20ft wide. I am addingon this summer so it will be about 60-70ft long and 20ft wide. I have currently 2 roosters(very good natured), and 10 pullets. I am adding 12 more pullets later this summer.

I have 6. Their house is 4x8x8 foot tall... Their run is 6 x 8. I think it's a bit too small for them, as they have taken to pulling eachother's feathers out around their heads... I never see it happen... I am out there a lot... I guess it is probably from when we lock them up at night? They seem happy during the day, as long as we toss them a 5 gallon bucket full of freshly pulled weeds/grass/bugs. Thinking about adding onto the run this summer...

One pen is 7x20 and until a week ago had 11 Sussexes in it (sold 5, so now only 6). That's 13 sq ft per chicken plus run.

Another pen is 6x12' and has 7 chickens in it. That's 10 sq ft per chicken plus run.

Having SEEN how my chickens act at these stocking densities and at higher stocking densities (e.g. 4 sq ft per hen indoors plus run), I do not expect I will ever put a higher number of chickens in there. (in fact I consider the second of the two pens to be more crowded than I'd prefer)

The building as a whole is 15x40, so in terms of air quality I am in even better shape (even though there are also 2 turkeys in a pen back there too)

Just because one has a given amount of space does not mean one *needs* to jam-pack it with poultry...

My layer house is 8 x 6 with an attached run 25 X 15. I have about 20 adult chickens in there, but I free range all day, so they are not actually confined in there except at night. The run is roofed, so they go inside the run (from the yard) when the weather is bad. I also have about 2 dozen juveniles living with them, but expect to retain less than half of that number when I sell the roos.

I have 20 standard laying hens and the coop is 8x10. My run is way bigger than I need for this many hens so I'm limited by the coop space. 20 is about as many as I can go. I think I could probably add a couple more hens but that would be pushing it.

One henyard that is 20x24 ft.

One rooster pen that is 16x48 ft.

Four layer tractors.

Two growout tractors.

One turkey tractor.

About 120 birds more or less not including what ever hatches this week.

.....Alan.
