I have 22 chickens and a broody sitting on 5 eggs.

Started with 6 EE pullets a week ago. They came complete with cocci. Lost one, but the rest look OK. I live a block from town hall and we are only allowed 10 hens (no roos). Not bad for a city, though.

Started with 24 Delaware eggs last summer, 11 hatched out. Lost two to stray dogs.

Bought some & traded some, got some new chicks from the feed store this spring, and a "surprise" batch of chickies from one sneaky hen, and now we're at 49! Plus 6 ducks

Someone told me you dont have to count "chicks" so I like that rule, LOL.

But really...we get asked all the time how many chickens we have, and I always guess around 65.

It all started a yr ago with 25 day olds in a shoe box brought to our front door by our mailman.

Now I just went around to all the different areas where we have chickens, and did a REAL head count.............here is goes

We traded eggs with a neighbor to get some “new blood” in our flock, and this is what we got:

These surprised us on mothers day…these eggs where under Fatty Patty

These hatched under Pretty Girl June 2009 so we are going to let her raise them.

At present. 35... but at least 6 of my chicks are roos I won't be able to keep and I'll be rehoming a few of the hens that I don't like.
