The problem is the sleep space in the winter. In the dark nights of winter, mine are roosting by 4:00 and not coming off the roost until 7:00. Overcrowding then will cause problems.
Try it, if you want, but have a plan if it does not work. Wishing they would all get along will not work. If you can cull birds, then play with this idea. If you cannot face culling birds, then you should not add extra. Free ranging and run size do not effect coop size, and where they sleep is a limiting factor in my opinion in the winter.
My own flock, grows and wanes... it is not a static number that some people here have. I have and can cull birds. If you add birds to a limited set up, then there will be a point that you have to cull.
It just depends on what aspects you want of the hobby.
