How many chickens should we get?

It doesn't matter how many chickens you get, you will always want more lol. I have 2.3 acres in the country and we have a lot of coyotes, foxes, and hawks around, but knock on wood, I do not have a fence and I have yet to lose a chicken to a predator. They free- range all day long unsupervised mostly. They stay out from 6am - 8pm. I think it does matter how bad the predators want to fight my rooster to get to a chicken.

Cant do that. I have kids that don't need to be shocked and neighbors cat on one side likes to use my yard as a route to outer desert area.

I played with an electric fence when a boy and I got shocked three times putting up my poultry net fence because the grass was so wet. No amps in the shock makes the animal not want to do it again. So far it is working for bobcats, raccoons, opossums, coyote................

I doubt there is a rooster alive who can drive off a coyote or even a fox
