Well just this year I started with 13 chickens...lost 3 of them to my dog and 2 were roosters so I'm down to 8 now.
I have 6 newly hatched chicks though from my flock plus 6 more on the way so pretty soon I'll be at 20!! 50 is a lot but I think I'm on my way!!!

I think it's important to mention how many people care for the chickens This will make a huge difference on the max number we can care for at once.
I have a full time job and raise meaties by batches of 20. This is plenty for me, the processing weekend is a lot of work for me alone, so I wouldn't go above 20 of the same age. Anyhow, they would be too many for my coop
