I thought they could lay but they aren't fertile?I got 8 eggs today and one broken one which would have meant 9. I only have 9 hens and one is a Mule that is not supposed to be able to lay so one must be doing double duty, lol.

From what I have read only the Hinnie ducks can lay. That is a Muscovy Hen and a Mallard derived Drake. I have a Muscovy Drake and a Mallard derived Hen which makes it a Mule and according to Metzer's site on Mullards it should not be able to lay eggs and is sterile.I thought they could lay but they aren't fertile?
I was hoping that the one that I got from the Black Swedish Call duck and possibly my Muscovy which would be a Hinnie was a female but it looks like it is getting a green head which means another boy. Just my luck, lol. From what I have read only the Hinnie ducks can lay. That is a Muscovy Hen and a Mallard derived Drake. Rats or snakes? I had a big black snake in the coop yesterday feasting on one of the eggs I left as a distraction. Took it out of the house so it could finish its meal. Thankfully mama and duckling in the egg are up on a shelf.8 today but something is happening to the eggs under the Broodys . Lost one yesterday and one today. No sign of them at all. Plus, one that they were sitting on had been kinda crushed. I opened it up and it looked a developing egg at about 10 days. They are sitting on only 2 now and they moved the nest about a foot.
I have thought about snakes doing it. We have the same kind of rat snakes that @Magnolia Ducks has. We call them Aggie rat snakes because most of their scales have a touch of maroon color on them.Rats or snakes? Fantastic picture!!! Which of your hens laid that egg? I wasn't sure what color runner duck eggs were. My Mallards lay a light green one. I hope that you still have 2 eggs from your Runners developing.Rats or snakes? I had a big black snake in the coop yesterday feasting on one of the eggs I left as a distraction.
