-0- I hope. Should I be watching my 5+month old Muscovy hens for any egg laying this winter? One of 'em's not been staying up with the other 2. This am she wolfed down her greens and has been acting normal. Ya'll are getting a few when not too cold. We had 60f a few days ago, (Alabama winter). For young ducks, do they hold off 'till it warms up in the spring before any egg laying?
Jeepers! I just checked the duck coop and found 4 eggs in the plastic doghouse within the coop. Dec. 29, 2023
My Muscovy have always been 8-9 months old before they lay. But a friend who lives in Texas who has Muscovy says hers lay early and lay and hatch year round. Mine stop mating in Sept and don't start back up unti late Feb.
So I think it depends on where we live in the country.
I’m still finding 1 quite frequently. I think it’s from Matilda. She’ll be 5 this spring and she took a normal break the last couple of years, so I don’t understand. There’s very few hours of sunlight, and the light is on in the barn only during normal sunlight hours. The eggs are perfect too. The little lady needs to take a break!
