How many ducks can I get?

I joined this forum when I acquired my very first ducks, and poultry at that. I was told a duck is a duck and a drake is a drake, I never thought to question that eight years later but I’m not too proud to admit when I’m wrong. I’ve also never kept ducks and chickens together, but I recently hatched some ducks and other members here forewarned me of dangers of the drakes attempting to mate “chicken” hens.

It’s all good. I learn something new almost daily from friends here BYC and local farmers with many years of experience.
Have a blessed day! 🙂

This isn’t factual.
I’ve kept ducks for years now with a kiddie pool and they have lived a very happy life.
Point of fact: We have both a creek and a pond. They always choose to swim in the kiddie pools over the pond.
this is also not factual.

now apart from the innate desire to be petty for no reason, really its that ducks will prefer what they grew up with, and what they know well. If they spent all of forever in a kiddie pool, when presented a pond, they will still choose the pool. if they lived in a pond, when offered the pool, all they see is a tiny puddle with no mud or tasty treats.

It is all perspective.

The ducks perspective.

Yes, thank you
This was my point.

Edit to add: It is factual for my ducks. They have had the choice and their preference.

Also, I’d only get female ducks if you’re keeping them with your chickens, as male ducks may attempt to mate the chickens, and could injure / kill them in the process.
hhmmmmm. my duck dudes have tried to mate chickens and geese, and my roosters have tried to mate ducks and geese. big herd of freaky birds
