How many eggs a day do chickens lay?
It takes 26 hours for an egg to form from start to finish inside a chicken, so they won't lay more than one a day.
Usually only one. Sometimes it will seem like they lay two but that is just how it is. You won't probably ever get 365 eggs a year from a laying hen. Everyone needs a break sometimes.
A "good layer" will hopefully lay 6 a week. 3 or 4 is much more common. This chart shows how many the average chicken of each breed will lay a week:
Thanks! That must mean that more than one of our chickens is now laying - I've only seen one- so exciting to be getting our first eggs! Feels like easter!

That chart has been moved to a new site. It's now at http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html.
