How many eggs a day will I usually get each day with 6 laying hens?

I seem to be averaging 3 a day with a high of 4 to 5 and a low of two-I tried looking to see if the ladies had found themselves a new hideyhole when the egg count was low, but I never found it and the count went back up to 3 to 4 eggs after 2 or 3 days-is that normal? Thanks!

Sounds pretty normal to me. A lot of hens prefer to lay an egg every other day, daily is just too much work for them.

What kind of hens do you have? That may have something to do with it. I have 19 and get anywhere from 15-18 a day (Only once did I get 19). I have 7 Gold sex links and 4 black sex links that lay very well 5-7 eggs each a week, then 2 buff orpingtons that lay 3-5 eggs each a week, a SLW that gives me 4-5 a week, a California White that has given me an egg a day for the last 45 days straight (and still counting), and 4 EE's that give me 4-6 eggs a week.

Are any of your girls molting? Is it possible that something is getting in and eating your eggs?

One is a black sex link, & I don't know what the other 5 are-they LOOK most like the Catalan pics on the breed list. I am in southern California so I think it is possible some could have been brought up from south of the border. Unfortunatly I only have access to the boards via my iPhone so I can't post pics. They are all laying light brown eggs- one egg is a bit larger than the others so I think it from the black star.

We have no critters in our yard other than a few smaller cats wandering in. While it's possible to have possums here I haven't found any neatly cut eggshells. Years ago my dad left an egg on his brick fence for the possums and the next morning he found an empty shell with both halves cut so neatly you would have thought a dr. had taken a surgical knife to it!
