How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

21/24 Pretty good for winter!

My oldest girls started laying the day before Thanksgiving, and now we're up to five one day, four the next, which isn't bad at all! What's funny is that when a newbie is getting ready to lay for the first time, she takes up residence in the 'favorite' box and won't share until she completes the process. Depending on the personality, sometimes they don't even like another hen in the nesting box closest to them, which makes the other hens kinda cranky and out of sorts. They meander down the ramp instead of investing in any of the other 8 nesting boxes and free range for goodies. Then when TWO cranky hens meet in the BIG back yard, words are said and quickly dropped if they hear indications in the nesting box that the deed has been done. Then they race to the coop and ramp like a five year old waiting until the last minute to use the facilities. THEY could care less if half a barn of animals are having High Tea up there. I LOVE collecting warm eggs! And I am still amazed at how they mellow out once they start laying regularly. I swear sometimes they are really, really trying to have a conversation when they look you in the eye.
