How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

2 from 3 layers - 1 white, 1 green

Really - I need to wait until the end of the day to post this because lately it seems just when I think I've gathered them all - one will go in there in the late afternoon and lay an egg!

We have 4 chickens (2 buffies, 1 golden comet, 1 cherry egger). We've been getting 4 eggs a day 4 times a week and 3 eggs a day on the other days (89% yield) ...but even though we maintain a timed light that gives them 16 hours of 'day' each day, the chickens have changed their habit in two ways as of late December into January: They lay later in the day now (mid-day instead of 6am to 10am) and their production has dropped to getting 4 eggs only twice a week, 2 eggs once a week, and 3 eggs on the rest of the days (78% yield). Our coop gives the chickens 4 sq ft each and temperatures are averaging 10 F plus or minus 20 F (welcome to Knik, Alaska... land of 'boomerang weather patterns' ...we're very near the inlet, e.g. coast with south exposure)

Day before yesterday: 4 eggs from 4 chickens
Yesterday: 3 eggs
Today: Haven't laid yet...

I got four out of 7 layers. I've got seven other pullets that are19 and 22 weeks old - but none of them have started laying yet. Soon, I hope.

Congrats on the first eggs. That's so exciting.
