How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

21 chickens 9-17/day. Not sure why it varies so much.
That's just the way it works out. Hens don't lay every single day, and it's kind of random when it works out a hen will take a day off, so some days it will happen that everyone is laying, and other days a lot of hens will be taking the day off. I tally my egg production up over the course of a week and average it out to get a clearer idea of what to expect.

7 eggs today, so this must be my slow day.
I think I will start tallying up by the week and see what it averages out to.
Now we are having a cold spell after the hurricane activity so maybe I will have time to make them up some warm oats again tomorrow morning before work. Looks like I will be getting up early!

I need to count the girls again, thought I had 19 but got 20 eggs today. Or when the DW picked them last night she left one. Either way Good Job girls.

I'm new this year to raising chickens. I started tallying and weighing my eggs from the time they started to lay in September. This has given me a better understanding to the egg laying cycle of my 9 girls. Also, I can see that the average weight of the eggs are getting heavier. At the beginning, the eggs were averaging around 38 grams. Now they are averaging between 47-59 grams. I don't think I would have realized how much heavier the eggs have become without weighing them. Plus, it only takes less than a minute to do this and I think it is sort of fun.

Awesome idea chickenwalker! I have two different breeds and one lays a heavier egg. I should so find a way to weigh them.

An Egg scale is definitely on my Christmas list! along with an automatic pop door!
"Kuhl" makes a neat looking one, and I 'm checking out the "pullet shut door" too!

It's cool you weigh the eggs, I have lots of stats on my girls, kinda of an obsession, and just lots of fun!

I am always curious because my sex links lay such ginormous eggs that the RIR'S and PBR don't get credit when credit is due. I always think theirs are puny in comparison(they're probley extra large I'm sure LOL) The Frankenstein chickens are really amazing when it comes to egg laying, the down side is they burn out quicker I'm told. I try to feed them as healthy as possible, and keep them happy(spoiled). We really enjoy them all, and am amazed daily at the different eggs. I even can tell by egg now who lays which one(granted I only have 7).
