How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Only eight eggs today from thirteen birds

10/13 chickens but 2 were frozen and cracked.
1/2 ducks but it was all cracked too.

Heave rainy day got more rain today then we got to date this year just over 1/4" inch in 6 hours and here in the Death Valley that is a major deluge

But we so badly needed it .......

And yes roads got closed in the low land areas

My Grandmother was born in 1902 and when I was going through some stuff of my dad's I found several dozen cook books of hers and noticed a lot of older recipes used duck and geese and other foul egg's in the making of every day food so back in 1997 I got into Geese as I already had chickens and ducks ......

Most every thing as I learned when I was young and heard about every day was that the house totally changed in the 1940's because of and after the war .... Just the way it was and even though things got better a lot of things were lost

I got 8 eggs this morning! However, none of them were from this morning. I was cleaning the chicken barn and pulled a bag of shavings out of the mobile coop and that is when I saw not 1 but 2 stashes of eggs that were laid under that coop. There was a total of 7 eggs under there. They were all cracked as they had frozen and then thawed back out. The good news is that 1 of the eggs was blue! That means that one of the ameraucanas has started laying!
The 8th egg was inside the mobile coop. That means it had been there about 2 weeks, as that is when I had closed and locked the door. It was the only egg that wasn't cracked. The dog got 2 eggs on her dog food and the other 5 I scrambled and fed to the chickens. I got a total of 58 eggs in the month of Feb. Now to see how many eggs they lay today.

recently we have only been getting 3-5 eggs out of 10 hens that should be laying.

But the good news is that the pekin duck has been laying regularly.
