17 out of 30ish...broody girls, silly Silkies, and those sly girls who have secret hiding places (Yesterday I found 11 stashed in the corner of the yard....every time I find it they move it!

lol) It's like Easter all the time around here

Yeah that looks like a lash egg to me.

Here are some pictures of others:

This explains it better than I ever could:

But...in a nutshell - it's the result of an infection in your hen's oviduct.

Opinions vary on how bad a sign it is - I'd suggest a bit of your own research. It's not something I've experienced first hand (yet).

Thanks! I went to that site & I agree, I think it is a lash egg.:( I had never heard of it before. I just thought the girls weren't laying many eggs in that coop because it isn't lighted and the days are so short. Now I have to try to figure out who it is. I know it has to be one of my EE, but I don't know which one. I also don't know what the risk is to the rest of the flock.

I'll message you so as not to fill up this thread with the conversation. :)

10 eggs from my 12 leghorn hens. My rooster foghorn gave moral support. (btw that's foghorn in my avatar pic)

Is it normal for EE's to lay way less this time of year? Non lighted coop as i give the girls a winter vacation, but i've only had 3 eggs in a whole week from two girls. I was getting a dozen from those two a week in nicer weather.
