strange it is afternoon and not a single egg yet...guess the girls will lay later...I hope they aren't on strike

3 out of 4 today and have found the perfect straw, that they laid in the nest box, rather to the side of it

don't think that's too bad considering its our first week together!

Does anyone know why my iso brown laid a very light coloured egg. The shell is very weak. She does get ground egg shells & some oyster shell

Thank you! They all three will be a year old in June. Does that make a difference as far as how many will be layed? Thanks so much for the info! My girls collected two eggs today!

Not really. They're about in full gear now, and laying may increase a little as the days lengthen, but my earlier numbers will be pretty accurate. They will slow down when the molt, probably next fall. They start to slow down after their second year, so March 2017, would be a good time to start growing new chicks who will start to lay as the current ones go into their second molt. After that, the older girls production will be down. At least, this is how it's worked for me, so I buy babies every other spring. When they begin to lay, I keep the older girls who are still laying, and send the non producers to freezer camp, to later be used for soup.
