How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My ladies were actually squatting today, oddly enough. It's far too early though for them to start laying so I don't know if it was a figment of my imagination or they were just defecating. LOL

With that said, how early can chickens possibly lay an egg? Like the earliest of all the breeds? And which might that be? I'm surely asking a lot of questions.. why you askin all them questions! How bout you google it, son! LOL Ok.. seriously I've lost it.

With all of that said, I put a basket/bucket/whatever of oyster shells and grit out for them to just pick at whenever they feel like they need it. I feel like they should be smart enough to go for it when they need it. Is that accurate or have I been ignorant?

I think 16 weeks is the earliest but i might be wrong. The grit and shells you're right if they need/want it they'll get it.

I think @Chickassan is right. Very rare for a chicken to lay before 16 weeks. And 16 weeks is really early.

That's what I do, dump the bags and they use as needed.

same as I do it but split it between coops in buckets
seems like a 5 high number for our Solstice day

Glad to hear that! And yes, then my girls won't be dropping any ovas any time soon then! We've got at least 4 more weeks at minimum if my birds are to grow per usual.
