Yeah, I don't like to disturb a hen in nest either. I open the access door to the nests and I talk to the girls and sometimes they stand and I will collect any I see. If she doesn't stand, I close the door, and check later. GCI don't even know how many eggs I got today, sometimes I go into shut the coop door then I open the nesting box to get the eggs and chickens will be sitting on them and I feel too bad to move them off the eggs and get them.
Have they been laying all along or do you have some that are first timers or coming back after their "moult vacation"? Mine usually lay smaller in those circumstances. Though it does depend on the hen. A "smaller, just stared back up" egg for my 2012 EE is still USDA Large. Her normal egg is XL to jumbo.I don't know.
