Today, 14 from 17 hens. Yesterday there were only 5 visible with a Light Sussex who has gone broody tucked in the corner. She had gathered 8 eggs under her, so that made 13. We're going to let her try to raise some chicks. They'll be a bunch of mutts, but that's OK as we are just after the eggs and garden services. Maybe we get 3-4 pullets to replenish the aging flock. This will be our first attempt at letting a broody raise some chicks. We isolated her and the eggs in a separate coop and she settled right in. The roo is guarding the coop like a sentry...good for him.

Solstice was nearly 3 months ago, equinox in 2 weeks.

Here, solstice / or is it equinox? ...the shortest daylight date was 2 -1/2 months ago.
Today 3/8/18 =
1 = Dasher's,
0 = Missy's, > sigh<
0 = Donner's

@Boonie Stomper solstices are longest/shortest days and equinoxes are equal day/night.

I have 8 layers and only get 2-3 eggs. Why? Help! They are happy, disease free, free-ranging but dont lay. What can I do to "egg" them on?

1. She's averaging about 5 a week and we just started into the second week today.
