Probably about 12 laying-age. The Dutch are all broody, and most of the rest are either sitting on nests or walking around half-broody!my 4 Silky are raising 9 bc marans, I have a ameracauna on 5 or so eggs from the main coop to prove my cockerel is fertile.. How many birds do you have I still get between 10 or 12 eggs a day
Wish one of mine woud go broody!
I've had no takers for the fertile eggs I was given on July 6 and have 2 bantam eggs likely fertile since she was escaping roosters when I got her that same day.
The timing is bad for me to incubate eggs now due to August travel plans.
Can a virgin hen even go broody?

I have occasionally heard on BYC about someone having a bird go broody before they ever laid an egg, but it's not that common. I've never had it happen to any of my birds.Wish one of mine woud go broody!
