How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I know I know!!! They did 5 again yesterday!

Wow that is so early - I'm going to lock up on dusk at 5.55 (alarm moved from 5.35 around Christmas time).

Can you lovely people please tell me what 4H is???? I always see it mentioned and have asked a couple of times on other threads but no one has ever answered me!

It is a nonprofit organization that works with youth to build better people.
The 4 h's stand for head, heart, health and hand.
I don't know all the ins and outs of it.
There is a strong emphasis on animal care and becoming good leaders.

I likely did not answer all your questions but I hope I helped some.

One. One little egg.......from a giant cochin.....yeah I am sure that bantam sized egg came from that giant cochin. :hmm she always gives teeny eggs.
Seems to be standard for the breed. Heavy bird, small egg. Can't see having such myself.
If I'm going to only get a small egg, might was well come from a small bird that doesn't eat much.

Google can be your friend :D

I wonder if they come out a bit wet after their last coat of spray paint. Anyone else notice this????
I've seen that, they likely come out a bit wet not from the coating (since I've seen it with my white layers) but maybe there is a bit of lubricant created to help the eggs come out easier. Seems to happen more with hay than pine shavings.

I know right!
I got the giants hoping for a broody or 3. I got big non laying pretty birds that have zero interest in brooding.
Last year 14 laying hens went broody in my layer flock so no eggs there either.
:barnie

I intentionally go for breeds that are not generically known for going broody since there will be no chicks hatched here. Even then I have a few that think they should try to hatch pine shavings or plastic eggs. For some reason Meyer thinks EEs are broody. I've got 3 now, have had several others. None have ever gone broody.

My layers that went broody are all Black Australorp. :hmm
No hatching here but it's nice to have a broody adopt chicks.

Yeah, that worked ONCE with the BA that goes broody. She went hard into the nest and I ordered chicks. The next year I planned for chicks to come during the end of April when I generally have at least one fool bird being broody. Zorra wasn't interested that time, guess she hadn't been broody long enough. Though she did start hanging with them when they were 3 weeks old. But they never saw her as their mother. Last year? :thThe Faverolles that was broody would NOT stay in the brooder space and Zorra wasn't broody. Those girls raised themselves same as the original 12 had to.
