How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Oh heck your right almost but have to wait we are not there temps still freezing
suppose to start warming this next week only 4 just now 2 in silky land

I got 7 eggs today.
@Spartan22 I did the first part of a Spring cleaning on my biggest coop today. I cleaned out all the old bedding and put down new. Prior to today, there were parts that were frozen to the floor!
I also added a "ladder" type lower roost. Hopefully, the pullets will roost on that instead of in the nest boxes or on the edge of the nest boxes.
I also butchered one of the roosters today. I still have 3 or 4 more to do, but my back can only handle 1 or 2 a day. I think it's because I'm short and so I have to lean over the sink. :idunno
We had a torrential downpour all morning!! It finally stopped around noon and then we had beautiful Spring weather! Now that it is dark, the winds have kicked up into high gear! There were already lots of branches down when I went out to lock up the chickens and collect eggs.

If you live in a Daylight savings area, don't forget to set your clocks ahead an hour!!

I will BF did not turn the light on in the coop today I saw it but not to turn it on so
coops all closed early just at dark they usually get to stay up with the light till like 9
see if that bites me tomorrow

I am not a fan of the time change either.
Just pick one for Pete's sake!

With exception of the day I got 10 eggs I think most of my birds can be confirmed duds at this point.
:(

That is part of my problem too. I have a hard time figuring out who is still laying and who is well past her prime. I have tried leg bands and zip ties, but both ended up disastrous! I tried different colored zip ties to keep track of male/female and age, but, even though I tried to put them on loosely, I had at least 1 have a serious problem when it grew too big for the circumference of the zip tie!!

Then I tried the leg bands that are made for chickens. I bought the size recommended for my breeds of chicken. These were the leg bands that look like split key rings and were made out of plastic. Again, I had birds that grew too big for them and they were cutting into the birds leg. :sick
I've also had both type come off because they were too big initially for the birds. I even had one bird get its toe stuck up in the band while it was wearing it on it's leg!!

I know that you are supposed to be able to feel their keel bone or something and look at their vent and be able to tell if they are still laying or not. But apparently, I haven't figured that out yet.
I also read one post where the person used different colors of food dye and put drops on the vents of different chickens and the eggs came out with some of that color food dye on them and that was how they figured out who was laying and who wasn't.
I am pretty sure that some of my girls are 3+ years old and they go all the way down to less than a year old! So many of them look the same, (black hens, Rhode Island red looking hens, Americanas/Easter eggers, barred rocks), so basically black, brown, red, and black & white striped chickens!!

a have several of those black and white cuckoo or barred now did not consider that buying them but they are not quite a year

Yeah that's the tricky part. I don't want to sell active layers. I know 2 of my 3 Brahma are laying, both BO and both BSL are laying. I give 2 birds in that coop a pass on laying due to one being a rescue that can hardly maintain weight and one having a heart condition.
The rest better get with the program.

The bone checking is the pelvic bones. The vent check......I am not THAT curious yet. :gig
