I was told they would lay blue. So with the brown from the orp and the beige from the svart hona I should get some pretty eggs..I can hardly wait...

FINALLY I got my first egg!! a green one! from my barred EE Pepper! she saw me building the new coop and laid an egg..she must sense competition coming

First day with 4 eggs in a while!!!

10 females, but...

1 is broody and raising chicks, another is molting, another is too young (hasn't laid yet), another has just taken a break...so we have at most 6 possible layers.

Since broody hen has been raising chicks for almost 3 weeks, she will hopefully begin to lay in the next week or two. The young one is 6 months old now with red wattles and comb and less skittish than in the past - so hoping for our first blue egg soon!

Ahhhhh thanks for the lesson! I thought it was a US / UK / Aussie thing - didn't know that! I know bless her! I always knew that loosing any of my 3 first 'babies' was going to be sad.

Only 5 so far Most of you know my main coop is geodesic covered by tarps the nemesis of
that is mostly dark inside we have a high light plain 40 watt bulb turn it on in the morning
turn it off about 9 we both blew it one day two days ago

Arrrrhhhh my lovely Matilda has passed away . I just went down to get my little guy an egg for his brekkie and I saw her in the corner of the coop. I didn't get her out as I'm still in my PJs and I didn't really want R getting all upset before he goes to school so I'll have to go and get her later. She is a black sex link type chicken - I did notice she was on the nest box a lot yesterday and I thought I'd double check on her and give her an all over today but it was obviously something serious I know these hybrid layers are not going to live as long as heritage breeds and are prone to reproductive issues but she was only 16 months old, I thought I'd have her a bit longer than this . She was one of my original 3 I got to start my flock Christmas 2017 and they were my babies, I carried them and handled them a lot (thier coop origianally was in a lean too on the house and thier run in the garden so until they learnt to follow me back and forwards I carried them). She was so lovely - probably my favorite of the 3 . Now I think of it the only thing I noticed was that she had feathers that seemed a bit thin on her butt (one of the things I was going to check on today), I'm now wondering if it was swelling. Devestated I didn't want to disturb her on the nest yesterday, she might still be here.

27 Eggs Today, first time in a long time we have almost a full day of beautiful sunny day in NE Ohio. Though sad for a friend @PouleChick who lost a beloved feather friend and bravely did more investigation about the cause. Kudos to you!

We had a beautiful day going now tonight light drizzle 5 said and done 3 from silky should get 4 soon molt about then they will then go broody again
