I got 9 yesterday

I'm slightly worried that one of my Orpington girls is going broody - are they a broody breed? I went late to get the eggs yesterday and she was in the nesting box looking a bit flat and I'm pretty sure she was in there this morning too but may have just been laying, going to go and check later.

Any bird not hatchery can go broody it is just that much fun the gene pool is so muttled they can be anything

I have 4 hens and have been getting 4 each day. I have two Guinea Hens and I'm only getting 1 egg a day (they have only been laying in the last two weeks

Wow do you have a lot of chickens? What do you do with all the eggs. I have been giving lots of my eggs to neighbors.

Depends on where you live I sell extra eggs

I have 37 hens and 3 roos
We give alot away to homeless shelters and for church functions.

We have taken extra to the food bank down here also glad others do also

They dont' really have hatchery's here like in the UK. All my birds are from backyard breeders. She is pure Orp. DH said she wasn't on when he went down (I've had gastro / DandV all afternoon / evening so wasn't moving! Nor did I count the eggs! Looks liek at least 8 been added to the basket though.

Yep, at least according to the description in the hatchery catalog. That is why I don't have any.

Araucanas with 1 gene will have ear tufts. If you had cross with no ear tuft gene and the mate has the single gene (otherwise it wouldn't be alive. As you noted, they die in the shell), you would get some offspring with 1 copy and some with none. Thus the difficulty with breeding them. Both having tufts would result in some of the offspring with 2 copies, some with one and some with none.

9 in the main coop 1 in Silky but they spent the day in their tractor
took the new six up there in my brooder box let the silky hear them a day see if they want to raise them as they have before
