How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

12 Friday, 14 Saturday with a surprise green egg from one of our EE that just started laying, :yesss: 12 yesterday and another empty shell found behind the nest box again...:hmm
I've found a couple of eggs that have been eaten, but it's been awhile. I think they were accidentally broken and being as chickens are curious, they were pecked at and eaten. I don't think any are intentional egg eaters, although I did wonder. I try to check for eggs several times a day and that seems to help!

I agree with you. The ones we find empty are not in the nest box. I think they get cracked when they get rolled/kicked out of the nest box. We are using plastic crates for nest box. Some of them have square holes that are large enough for the eggs to get rolled/kicked out. We do check them often on the weekends because we are at home more. This instance it happened between the second and third gathering of eggs. We may have to change the square hole crates over. It never happens in the other crates we use which have smaller round holes...

Yes, that would probably make a difference! We definitely get more broken eggs in the nest box when I'm not home to pull them out...my son only collects the eggs in the evening if I'm not here!
