there were 4 eggs in the coop the other day. I havent noticed anyone laying in the coop if I let them free range so I'm trying to keep them confined til late afternoon.
I have had to do the same. I was letting the girls roam(1/4 acre cleared and fenced) and eggs went from 4-5 a day to 1 or 2. I've been keeping them in the coop/pen until there ar at least 3 in the box before they get out. 7 birds, 1cochin bantam that doesn't last-miay anymore, but is a great coop mother. 3 GC's 2SlBlacks and a Barred rock. The GC's just started laying recently .I am excited to report that more pullets are laying.

If you can, watch where they hide, I found a clutch of 6 eggs they had laid in a back corner, under a tarp by my wood pile
That’s a lot of eggs no matter which number you decide to go with!
