It does suck but we will get through it. I need to thin my flock but chose poorly this time. I had no way of knowing who was laying amidst molting and the short days blues. Come February I’ll be hatching more chicks to fill the void and probably selling some more of my older chickens.Oh no,I was helping on a farm once. We were getting rid of old hens and I did that. They wanted me to pick the ones that were no longer laying, I kept one that wasn't and got rid of 2 that were. I know how you feel. They ended up with 7 of my chicks from last spring though to be fair. On the bright side you have more room for peeps.

Popped it out clean, medium size, nice shell.
Of course it was on the floor....have 4 nice nests nobody has used.
