I have 4 hens, 4 eggs today. I live in San Bernardino County in Southern California and today it snowed!!! It hailed a bit last week and then again today and then it snowed. Of course it doesn't stay on the ground and this is totally out of normal for us. My little darlings each laid an egg, which brings me to why I am here. All of my hens are brown egg layers (1barred rock, 1 buff orp, and 2 RIR's) My oldest Cookie, the BR is laying this very light colored almost pinkish tan color. It doesnt seem to have the polished texture the others have but it is very smooth. Here's a pic of the 4 eggs I got today. The Big one on the right belongs to one of the twins...been getting double yokers from them from time to time.i got 9 eggs today out of 10 hens that should be laying at this time woohooo.
Sometimes mine do that. They used to lay about 10-11 am but lately the first ones are coming as soon as the sun is out.
Colors will get lighter the more that are laid in a row. If they take a day or two off it will give the pigment a chance to build back up. Seasons can play a part as well! They will always be the same general color but could be slightly lighter or darker.I have 4 hens, 4 eggs today. I live in San Bernardino County in Southern California and today it snowed!!! The 12 eggs in the lovely container, a gift from my neighbor, you can see the variety of colors.Im guessing the colors, and size will even out as they get older? Does shell color have anything to do with their diet? On occasion I give them fruit and vegetables but other than that they get laying mash and have oyster shell available if they want it. (Every few days my grandkids give them a small handful of dried cricket, grasshoppers and mealworms.) The inside is great and the shells themselves are quite strong.
That makes sense I guess. They lay almost daily..it goes from 3-4 eggs a day. It winter here, lol, so...Colors will get lighter the more that are laid in a row.
