Was taking the chickens warm water and making them warm wet feed during our cold spell..... -5 c. The chickens didn't seem to be eating much at all but loved the wet feed. Set to stay above freezing until after Christmas.now. keep warm.10/18 + one frozen egg
Today's high was -37f (-39C). The barn cats stay in the chicken coop when temps are below -10f (-23C) and I turn on the heat lamp in the coop. Cats can have difficulty absorbing the nutrients from their food in such extreme cold. When it is this cold I crack a small egg on their food, mix it in well and add boiling water to just cover the food (which aids in digestion). Gotta keep all the animals happy and healthy in the worst that nature throws at us!
Do any of you do anything special for your animals in extreme weather (hot/cold/rainy...)?
Negatives for us, tomorrow morning. With wind chill, it's going to be miserable...True dat. People like us aren’t used to that kind of cold. We supposed to see 11 degrees Thursday night. Not good!
The cat will stay inside tonight, but other than that, everybody can take care of themselves pretty well. I did have a heat lamp going for a severely molting hen a few weeks ago, thankfully she's fully feathered now.Do any of you do anything special for your animals in extreme weather (hot/cold/rainy...)?
