Thanks! It’s my Welsummer’s egg, her name is Mei. She seems to lay less frequently than the others, but each egg is so beautiful that it’s well worth the wait!

I got 4 eggs out of 5 I guess yesterday. It’s just past midnight, I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year!

Just an observation, since there is so much pigment on these beautiful dark eggs, the bedding in the nest sticks to them, much more than to any of the other eggs - they're sticky/wet when they come out of the hen! We use shredded paper, and these eggs def have to be washed before being sold.


Check the label on the bottle of calcium. It may take two tablets to provide a serving of 600mg. One tablet a day will probably do the job, but 600 won't hurt her. Also, just pull down gently on her wattles and pop the tablet in her beak, she'll swallow it. Remember, a chicken can swallow a whole mouse or frog.

Eggs: yes I have some blue eggs like that, ewww! I use soft hay in my nest boxes, I have a nice loft of hay for the horses and when I get a bale with soft hay I use that in their boxes.

Mice and frogs: yep I saw my one silkie kill and then scarf back a snake! Yummy! And this past summer Raven caught a small frog and when she tuned to look at me all I could see was two frog legs hanging out either side of her beak HaHaHa - then she swallowed it down - glad I am not a frog!!

I don’t have any problems dosing them with meds, learnt to do that real fast! I will start giving Larry a tablet a day. Sure hope she can start laying normal eggs. Yesterday I found a brittle shelled blue egg, and the other day a broken blue egg in the box. Not sure who is doing that.
