How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

5 today, all 3 Rainbow Girls, Barred Rock Xenobia (I saw her on the nest and collected the egg when she got up, so I know it's HER brown🥰; she's such a sweet friendly big floof!) and another brown.

I was doing a major coop cleanup after all our heavy rains, plus more to come all week starting tomorrow. I added fresh dry straw to the nest boxes and cleaned up a wet area on the opposite side where I keep their oyster shell, grit and a small waterer; rain had seeped in at the top hinge (it's another nest box extension but the 3 on the other side are plenty for the 8 girls) and soaked the cardboard under the pine shavings, so I cleaned that down to bare wood and lined it with a heavy plastic (empty) fertilizer bag, covered in pine shavings.

Elsie the Easter Egger had been poking around the center nest box where Xena had just laid, but when I closed up I heard lots of thumping, thrashing & scratching. Peeked in, and she'd knocked everything around, tipped the grit dish out onto the coop floor and was trying to nest by the waterer. I evicted her & put everything back, but she kept returning, determined to lay there! So I relocated the grit dish, tucked in some straw and let her have her way. She kicked & scratched and nestled till it was to her liking, and a short while later, there was her pretty green (and lightly speckled) egg.

Now I'm curious to see if anyone else is going to like the new spot,🤔 clear across the coop from their regular nest boxes. Everyone else chose the center box again today.

My girls did me proud today again and each gave me an egg. Here's the haul from yesterday and today.

To thank them I refilled their cabbage dispenser with some coarsley chopped cabbage and kale. They seem to like it!
