How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Oooo I love them 😊💕 I have this thing for stripes - I got my nieces Barred Rock here and I just love her to bits - Larry - she’s 5 though and lays brittle eggs unfortunately. I have been dosing her with calcium to see if I can Up her calcium reserves.

I plan on getting a couple French Cuckoo Marans this spring - hope for nice dark eggs 💕
I tried for two blue copper marans hens late last summer. Both ended up being cockerels 🙄

Where did you get this blue Marans from?

I have a variety of egg colours right now, but really would like some dark eggs.

I still have my water-glassed duck eggs from late last summer and have not had to use them. How long have you ever kept yours and they were still good???? Some people claim they have used them after 2 years. I would know for sure if they were bad if I went to fry one, lol. My Ducks were still laying up until today so I have a stock pile in the fridge.
Hey, @Luv Ducks, it's a mystery to me as I'm brand-new to water-glassing. This is my first flock and the spring pullets were overwhelming us with eggs by October, which is when I started trying out preservation methods (after reading about egg production drastically decreasing/stopping during winters).

We'll see what happens as we enter the coldest, wettest winter months but so far my "baby girls" are keeping us well supplied! I suspect next winter, when they've had their first molt, etc. we might have an egg drought.

I'm planning to pull out a few water-glassed eggs to try in February, testing them as scrambled or in custard; apparently they're not recommended for over-easy pan cooking. (I wonder if they're OK for hard-boiled/deviled egg recipes?) Same with the frozen eggs, will try in recipes like quiche.

Please let us know how your preserved duck eggs work out! Supposedly your summer eggs are well within the "use-by" recommendations. Inquiring minds would like to know...🤔

4 today! The girls are going stir crazy since they’re stuck in their run. Juillet took a flying leap into the snow when I opened the door, and sat there with her wings out and her feet buried, looking like she had no clue what she’d just gotten herself into. I put her on my shoulder and took her for a walk around the yard. When we got back I saw that she had left a hilariously chicken shaped indentation, you could even see where her wing feathers had scraped the surface. It was like a chicken snow angel! 😆
