2/6 SLACKERS! I am seriously thinking about making them pay rent!

I got 51 out of 60 hens today, this summer has been awesome for eggs! I switched my "girls" over to a 20% layer from the 16% and boy what a difference that 4% makes! Not only are the number of eggs up, but the shells are stronger, the yolks are brighter and the eggs are measuring in at almost 4 inches long! The eggs are so jumbo, I cannot even close the cartoon on the eggs. Word has definitely hit around the island because I cannot keep up with the demand for the jumbo eggs!

Just one BUT it was our first from our baby girls! Our 16 week old Golden Sex Link started the day singing her heart out and kept it up for hours. Was pacing like crazy. I told DH that we would probably get our first egg and sure nuf there it was...not in the nesting box but on the sand in the run.

4 eggs from 6 hens (4 Red Sex Links, 2 Barred Rocks) is our average. The most i have ever gotten is 5.

We got 25 from our 30 GC's yesterday again!!!

This time there were only 2 that were on the smallish side. The bantam-sized eggs seem to be waning and now we're getting either medium sized eggs from the 11 new Youngsters or giant mega-sized eggs from them. In the past week I've taken maybe 8 very large eggs that were in the range of 2-1/2 to 3 ozs. However, to be fair the mega-eggs all have been kind of thin shelled and I broke a couple of them just cleaning them. None of them were double-yokers though. And I think the original 6 hens who were going through molt are starting to come out of it. Only Miss Pitifull still looks pitifull with a bunch of white showing. But she was on the nest says Teresa a couple of days ago so she's either faking it or back to laying. Y'all have a great day from here in Iredell County NC!
