Some might start to get broody. Or they have started some secret nests ...For some reason, our girls are laying LESS now that the days are getting longer.
We did have one go broody and hatch 3 chicks. If they have secret nests in the run, I'm not sure where that would be. They don't free range. But I will take a very close look out there today. Thanks! Some might start to get broody. Or they have started some secret nests ...

That's a lot of eggs!We have an average running at 90 eggs daily, for the last 2 weeks. Prior to that was 68 average for a month straight. The Sun is back. Should be at 100+ real shortly.![]()
3 today, Mei, Juin and Août.
Mei, my much beloved and beautiful Welsummer passed away today. It looks like she laid her egg, and then laid down in the leaves of her run to take a dust bath and died there. She was still warm when I found her. I’m devastated. She never even reached her namesake month of May, as she was hatched last June.
I’m grateful for her lovely presence in my life. I’m so glad I started keeping chickens, as I know the short nine months I had with her were well worth all the pain I now feel at her loss. What a treasure chickens can be. They make every day wonderful for me, and Mei was a sweetheart. Adorable, a gentle leader, and she gave excellent hugs. I’ll miss her, and think of her always.
