They are so sweet! My Juin is so snuggly. She doesn’t get along with my Cuckoo Marans, and has to be separated at night otherwise she gets picked on. I want her to have another buddy to snuggle up to. I just wish she didn’t have to wait until June for the chicks to arrive.

Mine also honks! Her voice is quite quiet most of the time, but when she’s bent out of shape she cackles at the top of her lungs. It’s so loud, and it seems to never end! She also picked up various noises from my Cuckoo Marans, Juillet. I have recordings of Juillet calling and Juin mimicking her, it’s pretty comical, like Juin is her annoying little sister

Six eggs today in the communal nest box. One had stepped in cecal poop before getting in the box and dirtied one of the eggs. Not too bad, but it smelled horrible! It did wash up nicely, though, and will make a nice breakfast.

It's day 88 on the Julian calendar, and my seven girls have laid 492 eggs this year (not counting broken ones).

492÷88=5.59 eggs per day from my seven birds. That's 0.798% egg laying efficiency, meaning each chicken has laid on average 0.798 eggs per day.

Edited to add:
Now all those numbers are slightly off. I found egg number 7 for the day...

12 yesterday and 11 today. The ladies have been very good.

I didn't get home until dark, and there weren't any eggs in the nesting boxes. I did find an unmarked egg under Martha, looks like Hannah's. She must have laid it when Martha went for a drink and a bite to eat. There weren't any eggs under the A-frame roost, but in the headlamp beam I noticed two eggs under the wheelbarrow!

Juillet kept them warm for a couple of hours but never laid her own. She seemed a bit cranky about it too.
