Happy birds. Six from six this morning. Eggs with homemade salsa for breakfast today. Again.



ETA: Just saw that the "cheap" eggs at Walmart are getting kind of pricey. Glad I have my chickens giving me eggs for around 16 cents each (layer feed cost).

Nine, including this 75g egg from one of our white leghorns. She only started laying two months ago. That's the largest egg we've seen. Thank you, Miss Ivory!

Edit: the big egg had two beautiful huge yolks.

I'm getting 3-4 eggs per day from 18 hens.
In good laying season I would get about a dozen eggs per day from the same girls. But there are three factors I need to consider. One, they all look like they're having a bad feather day due to their molting. Yes, molting season is in full effect. Two, the weather has been drastic. And three, about a third of my flock are old hens that no longer pop out eggs like hot cakes. I have not raised chicks in over 2 years (pat myself on the back). I'm hoping to get more little chickies next spring.
