How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

One egg yesterday. This morning there was a busted shell-less egg in the roost. I’m still not sure why their shells are so weird lately. They’re getting 17%layer feed and have access to oyster shell at all times.
I have the same issue with some of mine. The older girls I expect it from, but not the youngsters. I am going to see if supplementary vitamin D helps. Here it’s a lot of darkness now!

My girls had to stay inside for Thanksgiving Day -- we headed out at 2pm and were going to be gone for lock up -- only 6 eggs were laid. Surprised me haha but every time I went in there to pick any up before 2pm, oooh lawd they were yelling at me.

Today we will be back to normal free ranging - I always wait about 2.5 to 3 hours after dawn for a better chance at safety from crepuscular predators.
I hope you have a wonderful time! And I am sure your ladies will forgive you 😊

I keep my flock inside the barn when I am away at work. And now we are getting snow so they will be barn bound for them next few months unless it’s mild like last winter.

They entertain themselves by finding new hiding spots for eggs and then watch me run around trying to find them before they freeze hahaha!

So far today I have 1 pink silkie egg (thank you Fluffy) and a shell-less broken egg from my 3.5yr old Silkie Marty, poor old girl - I am giving her calcium nightly, but it doesn’t help.

First proper snowfall with a dusting sticking to the ground. The chickens don’t seem to mind despite it being their first winter. One poor pullet has a face full of pin feathers and hasn’t laid in several weeks. Their high score has been 11. 9 out of 19 today with the possibility a couple more being laid before it gets dark.
