How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

5 / 5

Maybe someone on here would know. I have 0 eggs, and I should be getting 11. About 2-3 months ago the egg numbers started to diminish, and now about a month ago everyone has stopped laying all together. Hmm... they are all eating, drinking, dust bathing. They all seem normal and happy. We did have lice on a few back around June or so but we since then have gotten rid of them. On another thread that I breifly read someone said something about molting. There is a big area out back where there are alot of feathers.

Because they had lice could that give them worms? And would that be why they aren't laying?
Are they slowing to a stop for the season? (I have orpington/wydonette mixes, ages ranging from 5 months-15 months)
Is it because they are molting?

Thanks in advance, hopefully someone knows something

Have a great day ya'll!

Today was great! DH and I were commenting this a.m. that we would be so eggcited to get 4 eggs! We have 9 hens and 2 roos and have been collecting first one, ...then two,... and then three eggs for the past month. This p.m. I went to coop to clean and to implement some the the BYC fabulous ideas. First I cleaned the run while the group enjoyed free ranging. Next I pulled out nest boxes, (gathering our daily 3 eggs) cleaned the boxes thoroughly, and placed carpet on bottom of nests. Now ....off to clean the inside of the coop. As I walked in, I spotted an egg on the floor! FOUR FOUR I happily yelled up to my football watching husband. He came out on the deck and said FOUR!?! YES!!!!! I said! FOUR! We were very eggcited. I continued cleaning the inside. We have a flat surface in the very back. Yep! You guessed it! ANOTHER EGG! FIVE! FIVE! FIVE! I shouted (as I did a happy dance.) DH once again came out on the deck to celebrate our find. So today was an eggceptional day for us! I think he was more eggcited about #4 and #5 than he would have been with a TD!

Just two for 7 girls they are hot & cold like crazy the most has been three one day which was my buff & two barred rocks. One of my Austrolopes is doing the egg dance finally the other doesn' have a comb yet. The two Brahma's are stinking loafers but I will wait since they are part of the group! Maybe it's the heat since it's been 95 to 100 lately?

If looks like there's been a pillow fight in the coop - your gals are molting. I know mine are. Toss them some dry cat food to hurry them along!
