We had a very scary incident Saturday night...I went out to lock up the chicks and there was a possom in the hen house!! All the girls were out in the run squawking like crazy and our roo was inside with the possom! Luckily we didn't lose anyone! Dear Gotweim! Glad yours made it! I haven't seen a possum this winter, but am expecting the coons out any night now! Yeah it sucks to lose your hens to a dog, when you are an advocate for responsible dog ownership!

We lost our first hen to my weim, Jack......my husband was weed-whipping around the run and spooked a few of the girls and one got over the fence and Jack was right there waiting....it's hard to have bird-hunting dogs with birds! He was so proud of himself (Jack, that is! Not my husband! lol)!

I worked hard with my weims to teach them to leave our hens and ducks. Then I worked with my neighbours GSP to leave them alone. Of course my weims will take out stray flocks (and cats) that wander in our field but they know they are not mine. And of course the darn birds weren't the least bit afraid of this stray. Of course Jack was proud of his catch- LOL.
