How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Hmm, not even 2 years old and shut down at 1 year old? Since they don't even start laying until they are ~5 months or older, a 6 to 7 month laying lifetime? That doesn't sound so good.

Only 5 today. Still, one better than yesterday. Stupid Anais is sitting on the empty nest AGAIN today. Doesn't bode well for eggs from HER!

She laid every day then the last week of March she was acting as if she were bound she was lethargic, ate and drank well and moved fast enough to not let me catch her. She would also bounce her back side as if she were trying to loosen an egg. When in the coop she would allow me to gently massage her under side and check her bottom I did hold her at night on a very warm towel which she seemed to like. After coming out of her slump she only laid 2 or 3 eggs the rest of the year till she laid the 2 in a row. She however does love to sit on everyone else's eggs she has always gathered the then 2 eggs we got each day from her and her sister and if allowed to she would sit on them all day. Once she stopped laying she would wait for her sister to lay so she could sit on the egg. She is otherwise happy and healthy she just does not give any more eggs. Thoughts?

Most days we are getting 2 chicken eggs from 3 hens, and 3 duck eggs from 4 muscovy females. Pretty good, we think, for no additional light or heat during a Central Oregon winter. We went "all natural" to try to give them a laying break for the season, but most seem to still be going strong! Certainly enough to allow me to keep up with breakfast and baking for two humans

(They do, of course, have insulated, ventilated shelter available at night, just no artificial light or heat source.)

That is what my girls will get when they stop laying. No eating chickens my daughter knows personally. Hopefully they'll not be knocking off after only 6 months of laying though!

Unlike some, I am not against entitlement programs for those that, through no fault of their own, can not pull their own weight.

Only 3 today and they may possibly have all come from the 2 Australorps.

4 eggs from 7 layers. 3 started molting. We were getting 5/6 a day but I'm still thrilled with 4. After all it's deep winter here and cold and dark. Dark by 5:00 and dark still at 7:30 in the morning! We have been putting the garage light on so they have extra light.
