How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

It's been raining sideways here in central NC for the past few days. We have so much water it's even gotten into the run. I've got to go out this morning and see if I can trench around the run to move some of it away so things will dry out. I got home last night and it was starting to sleet. When I stepped into the run I knew it was bad. I was standing in water inside the run. Never had that before. The Gals, including the guineas were all water-logged. Drenched to the bone. They were all inside the coop which is inside my run but they were a bunch of 'fowl' looking sad sacks. I'm hoping none of them gets sick from this. I've never had a water problem before but just too much has been coming down everything is over-saturated. At least it's supposed to dry out and stay dry for the next week or so according to the Weather Channel.

As far as eggs go, on Wednesday we only got 11 which was strange. But yesterday we got 22 from our 24 BSL's. Has to be the weather that's got them all messed up.

I'm right there with ya brother. It has never rained, etc so much before. I've got to clean out my coop again for the 900th time to be able to keep it somewhat dry in there for them! If it's not raining, it's snowing, then temps down in the 20s. But I think we will have a small break this weekend. Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 60s-heat wave! I've been so worried about my birds all winter long, I've tried all I can to keep them comfortable. But they are still laying very well-I'm shocked. But I've seen a defenate pick up with them lately-weird. But they are doing quite nicely, but they do let me know that they are not liking this weather. But as usual they are so excited to see me a'comin. Hope you and the girls can dry out. Tomorrow is going to be another hauling of the coop/run-yipeee

so I hope she really is molting... the 9 month mini-molt is common enough for people to know about it, but not so common that it happens for everyone...

But as I understand, all pullets lay fairly well through their first winter... but the winter after their first hard molt EEs show horrificly low production, as in you're lucky to get 2-3 a week from EEs in the winter horrific.

Sounds like I'm supposed to get more chicks this spring so I'll have eggs next winter! Which, of course, being a "no kill" home for chickens,
could become a problem REAL fast. And if pullets are supposed to lay "fairly well" through their first winter, I have 8 SLACKERS. Two a week MAX from each at the moment.

or maybe one or both of the two slackers will decide tomorrow is the day they'll get up off their royal, feathered back sides and make me an omlette.

WOW! your chickens make omlettes? I can't get ANYONE in my house to do that (besides me of course) let alone the chickens.

Testing at school this week but my younger one had no tests today. She got up at her regular time in case I was going to make her breakfast (which I usually do M-W-F). Saw her and said "I'm not making breakfast, you might want to go back to bed". And she did. Truly my value is only in feeding her face and driving her places. I guess the college can deal with that next year

I would die on the way out to the coop...

Have I mentioned on this thread that is was 115+ three days the week I moved from So. Cal. 3+ decades ago?

7 hens, 5 laying, 3 eggs today...

all my delinquents are belong to us.

Yeah I got those too (see the first response in case you forgot already

)! But then (and here I go bragging again) despite that monster egg

Zorra laid yesterday, she gave me a "regular" 62 gram egg today. FOURTEEN days in a row that girl has laid. I know we aren't supposed to have favorite "children", but she sure is trying to buy her way in.

So, today 4 from 12. One Ancona that last laid 3 days ago, Zorra and the EEs.

Finally, it's quit raining and the sun's out for the next few days here in the Carolinas. Yea!!! Today the Gals looked pretty good and I was able to get out there this morning and reopen the drainage trench around the run to get the water out and down the hill. Way too much came down for the past four or five days. The weatherman has been shouting about how bad the drought was going into the last week or so but now they're shouting the opposite. I read somewhere that everyone prays for rain until they actually get it and then they pray it goes away.

Anyways, today the Gals showed their appreciation and produced 22 big brown ones. One was another mega egg that we've been getting every day or so. At least the middle of the run was dry and they were all clustered together doing their sand baths today. They're happy.
