How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Why did you quote what I said and then make a farce ??

I presume you mean "face" and I would interpret adding a happy smilie as a gesture of friendliness.

OK, egg counts:

February:
2/1: 5
2/2: 7
2/3: 10 (one was under the roost and cracked badly enough that it will be cooked as chicken food
2/4: 10 (Unless one of the other 2 has a late egg. I'll change this if I find one at coop locking time.)

I don't know it it is the increasing natural light or the temps dropping again but 10 beats the prior record by 2

5 out of 10 hens!!! This is a first for that amount. I am sooo excited!!! I have just determined that my silkies are hens also, which means that I am 8 for 8 out of straight run chickens, what luck!! :)

I am in Wyoming. There have been other good days, but our typical laying rate averages about 75%. They have not slowed down during our cold spells, but I do keep the coop heated, if you can call 34 degrees being "heated."

Well, 34 degrees in Wyoming is pretty good considering chickens can take cold pretty well. I've wrapped the North, West and east sides of our run with tarps to cut down on the cold winds and keep sleet and rain from coming in for the winter. It helps. The Gals get locked up in their coop at night and it's pretty much over 40 degrees in there on the coldest nights. If it's going to be down in the low 20's or even lower I'll take their 5 gallon waterer and fill it with very hot water and sit it inside the coop for them. The coop is 4x8x4 so it's small enough for the heat coming off the waterer to keep them warm enough all night. A plus is that when I let them out in the morning I can hang the waterer from the chain and the water isn't frozen.

By the way, Wyoming is a great place. I used to live in Longmont, Colorado about 70 miles from Cheyenne and we'd drive up at least a couple times a year to catch a rodeo or one of the roundups. Lots of fun for a Cowboy-wannabe.

Oh, almost forgot... We got 20 big brown ones from our 23 BSL's today.
