How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 27 eggs out of 30 hens.Okay I guess.

I'm not exactly counting but yesterday I believe I got around 5/12 one being a pullet who hasnkt laid but should at any tme. However we are getting more then we were before.

Friday I found one soft shell egg broke on the coop floor, then later that night I was watching the girls roost, and one (they were in a bunch so it was hard to tell which behind it came from..lol) dropped another from the roost....
This morning...I found two eggs under the roosts that were thin shelled.
Any suggestions on how to get them to stop laying the eggs on the roost? This has just started..the normal layers all use the nest boxes so far...my hens are all young...18 weeks.

From my understanding the thin shelled one can just kinda accidentally pop out. Like peeing a little when you laugh. Putting some golf balls in the nests might help too.

The girls that are laying use the nests so I would think that would be encouragement enough. I've put a little extra oyster shell in with their feed, and in their run with the scratch just in case.

I offer oyster shell free choice at all times. Are you offering scratch and feed as free choice? I couldn't do that! Mine would eat all the scratch first! I give couple handfuls of scratch as one of their daily treats but other than that they get layer crumbles plus another "snack". Back on topic! Hopefully like you say the others will be goid role models and they will learn from them. How many nesting boxes do you have for how many chickens?
