How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Hi Everyone

I was just wondering if it is normal for pullets that are 15weeks old to start laying eggs as mine have a week ago at 15weeks. The reason I ask is that three were laying small brown eggs and one laid a shell less egg. For the last few days however I have been finding good medium and small eggs, on one of the days they laid 4 normal eggs small and today to my horror I found 3 shell less eggs, not sure what is going on as I went out early at about 5am and let them out of the coop into the chicken run and when I went out to clean the coop at 6:30 I found these eggs. Thanking you in anticipation.

4/5....The Gold Sex Link layed a quarter pound whopper today! For the second time ever she first started laying back in September, this 4oz. behemoth is literally twice the size of her normal every day eggs. You'd think an egg like that would hurt her, but nope she actually acted as if nothing special had happened at all. Well, all the same certainly a rarity and a special treat today!

But it got me wondering today, what caused the egg size to increase so dramatically?

Some of mine started laying at that age! I was not expecting eggs that early either. Mine also went through a period of a few weeks before they were laying all hard- shelled eggs too. I had a few really strange soft- shelled ones early on. I went out and bought some oyster shells to make sure they had enough calcium, but I really think it was their bodies adjusting to the idea of making eggs at first. They are consistently laying beautiful eggs now.

Thanks Kentuckymom,
That makes me feel a lot better to know that this happens to young pullets, I just went out side and I got one egg that was small, brown. Basically they all laid today just 3 shell less and wasted. Anyway thank you once again for your response, much appreciated. My first day on here so not sure what I am doing...lol

What breed of birds? Are they on layer feed?
