You need to get Miss Agatha a rooster!!!
Not on a bet! Of the three roos we had, one is in the freezer and the others have already been eaten! No, what I'll do, I think, is call one of the other fine folks in Cowley who have chickens and a rooster I hear all day long and see if I can get a few eggs from her girls......then I'll slip them under Agatha and see what happens. Not looking forward to chicks coming in the winter, but it is what it is. We're leaving town again on Wednesday and won't be home until Sunday, otherwise I'd see if I could try to break her, but I don't have the luxury of that kind of time. My oldest granddaughter, Little Diane, might get a little testy if I told her I had to miss her wedding because I had to stay here and babysit a broody chicken.
Katie is a hoot, tntchix! She has this really dry sense of humor, and when she talks her facial expressions are so dramatic. She wrote a "brochure" for Gramma's chickens all by herself, then came over to show it to me. I just had to video her reading it. I wish I could share it, but I don't want to put her up on YouTube because her parents don't want me to - they're pretty good about me sharing stuff on my FB page but they know that my privacy settings there are pretty stiff. She drew a picture of a chicken on the front, which she explains is "Gramma's chicken Cora" and the thing is a tri-fold, even! She says,
"At Diane's house the wonders of eggs happen every day. From two eggs in one to blue eggs that most people have never even heard about. These aren't lazy working chickens. These are hard working chickens. Don't even think about making fun of these chickens - some of these chickens were in big pain laying these eggs. Cora is a Marans chicken. She's the prettiest chicken I've ever seen from chick to chicken. She's the most activist chicken I've ever peeled eyes to. Cora lays beautiful dark brown eggs. Where do you get these eggs you ask?" (At this point on the brochure she has my name and full address. I told her that if we posted her brochure on FB I didn't think it was a good idea to use my address, so she kinda ad-libbed an ending that did't fit at all - I think she mumbles, "It'll never be heard" or something like that.!)
She was so serious reading this thing, and she worked so hard on it. What makes all of this so incredible is that Katie has mild Austism. Ain't that a wonder? This afternoon I went over and cathed Kendra while Jenny was gone. I gave Katie a hug and told her the same thing I tell her with every hug - "You're Gramma's heart!" And she hugged me back and said, 'And you're my gizzard, Gramma." Um, thanks, I think?
Oh, and stay on topic I got 8 eggs today.
