10 eggs today. Finished insulating the Ameruacana Cabana. So now we are ready for winter.

I got 1/17. Lol. Mine haven't started laying yet. A friend gave me 2. One is molting. The other is laying. 2 of the 17 are only a month old. Lol. So not bad

I am really impressed with the shipping on these eggs...all arrived just beautifully, without so much as a crack, and there were 3 extras packed in there besides! But isn't it strange to be buying eggs for one of my layers? Jan, our postmistress, called me early this morning and said that they'd just come in with the mail for today and asked if I wanted to pick them up now or wait until all of the mail was put out. I raced down right away.

Anyway, they've been sitting on the counter just the way they came - all neatly packed and each one in it's little foam divot.


Amazing packaging! Foam under them and a layer of foam on top of this layer, with each egg nestled into its own spot and covered with the little plugs. Eggs were extremely clean and fairly uniform in size, too!


Here's Katie with Agatha's new family. She's so excited. We decided to be honest with her and tell her that she had a wonderful idea and that it showed she was thinking, but that those eggs she found in the outside fridge were probably too old to hatch. We also told her that they were working very well to teach Agatha how to sit on the eggs without breaking them. She was fine with that. Tonight, well after the chickens went to bed, she and I and Grampa went out to the coop and did the switch. She helped, and she was awesome!

She insisted on marking the fertile eggs with an X, in case one of the other girls sneaked in the nest if Agatha was out "stretching her legs" and laid an infertile egg in Aggie's nest. Hate to break it to ya, Katie, but I ain't sticking my hands under Dragon Lady and checking for unmarked eggs. Then she marked the calendars - every single one of them in every room and the one at her house - with the number of days until they should hatch. Please, Lord, for Katie's sake, let this work. She asks for so little, and it means so much to her.
