How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

10 / 11ish / 17

14 days into August and we've hit 100 eggs today

Super exciting as it's our first flock and they only started laying July 26th!

Sadly though the kids and I are STILL confused

who's laying what. One of these day's we'll get it figured out as I'm tired of holding eggs up the screen while the kids bicker over which breed laid what. The only ones know for a fact aren't are our Welsummer's, possibly the Black Star's too?

Who could and is laying: BO, barred's, New Hampshire, Black Star, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Golden Comet, Rhode Island, Silkie (definitely her and her cutie patootie bouncy ball sized light brown egg)

Well, I got 10 eggs today out of 6 hens and 5 ducks. We have 18 pullets, 3 young ducks, and four chicks (this is excluding a cockerel who won't lay, at least I should hope not!

)who are future layers, though. Four have been squatting for a while, and while I'm trying to be patient, I keep finding myself thinking, "Please, just lay already!". I'm so excited, but who can blame me? When our egg explosion hits, there will be a combination of brown, white, green, blue, pink, chocolate, black, and cream eggs in our cartons.

Went to collect eggs tonight and found 4 eggs in one box with a chicken standing over them...none were hers. I think she was trying to find a comfortable way to lay on the pile!!
Boy, does THAT ever sound familiar! Sometimes I even find two hens squeezed uncomfortably into the very same nesting box (we're talking a turkey of a Barred Rock who weighs around 8 lbs., and a huge Buff Orpington, mind you).
