I've seen that idea too, but so far haven't constructed anything that sturdy or big. I tried a raised screen that had been inside an aquarium, but without support on all 4 sides it isn't doing anything. Plus, it's only as big as the bottom of a 10 gallon aquarium.I have found these cute little raised "garden" boxes on Pinterest that I want to try to get more grass in my coop. This is the photo I found. It seems like a great way to get vegetation in the coop while protecting the roots enough to grow!

I haven't tried my hand at making homemade mayonnaise yet. Do you have a good recipe that you'd be willing to share?9 eggs yesterday for 18 hens. Easter Eggers are starting to lay at the six month mark, as people here said they would. I got a dozen two days ago.
Since this is not entirely a hobby-and expenses are around $50/month- I've been running a light to allow for 14 hrs of light/day. Hopefully it will pay off-or else there will be more homemade mayonnaise, creamy salad dressing and mushroom quiche than my family knows what to do with.
No, not a lot of hens will lay every day. Some will go great for 4 or 5 days and then take a day off. Others will lay every other day their entire lives. Usually when a chicken just starts laying, it takes them a while to get into the routine. A lot of mine, when just starting, would lay every 3rd day. Then when they got the hang of it, or just got older, they would lay almost every day.My hens just started laying I got 2 yesterday but Kobe today I have 19 hens but only 4of them are old enough to lay yet should they be laying every day
