I got one more egg today! It's definitely from Peaches. Marta and Tomi are very close to laying! What is leg banding? Why yes, I am a NOVICE.

they are plastic Bands of different sizes depending on breeds (EE are 9 and Buff Orpington is 11), all different colors. They help distinguish between layer or non layer, sick vs healthy. Makes our life so easy. BO are yellow, EE green, BA blue. COMET orange, wyandotte will be purple. You choose what will fit best with leg color as you don't want the leg getting pecked on. Before they laid, I banded the LOs who had same breed as bigger (buff and comet are alike younger and older) so I don't put the Littles in with bigger.

awesome!! Kind of funny, we just got a new buff Orpington layer today and yesterday they turned 26wks so our BO are 3wks apart

@Cbennich We are allot new to differences such as bands I grew up on
a farm had chickens white leghorns what we called rode island red all brown or white
never color. Raw milk straight from the source never died from any of it..
all new ball game here but sure is fun

My girls were a retirement gift from my husband. I had always wanted chickens but never had time for them. We are having so much fun with our girls! Lucky you having had them for years!

actually I was way to busy during my productive years
only bought and got back into them this last year but was a veterinary
doing research 35 years

I keep track of eggs laid daily over the span of a week and lately it looks like computer code: 1010101

I keep day to day but never through the week probably should now
I cook up a few dozen every week for the dogs sell 6 to 8 dozen also

I've been keeping track of eggs laid each week for years. On Saturday, I transcribe the week's egg production to a calendar. I keep these calendars as a record of my flock. Any chicken that has become sick or died, or when new pullets begin laying, etc. gets noted on the day it occurs. It's real handy to go look up the calendars from last year or the past several years and compare with the current egg quotas. It's also helpful to get an idea when I can expect egg laying to pick up again.

I keep light in the coop so mine really does not drop in the winter months
I can see it would benefit me as I have birds in the coop seem to be dead weight
I am feeding without producing kinda irritates me
